127 Hours is a great movie and I really enjoyed it. It is also a referendum on the variety of faces James Franco can make. I now feel like I’ve slept with him and I have no need to find him attractive anymore. He was, arguably, at his most chisled/dangerous/dreamy as Daniel Desario in Freaks and Geeks, I think.

I specifically asked to talk with screenwriter Simon Beaufoy about working on the film; he’s lovely and humble and let me talk his ear off about the nuances of structure in screenwriting. What they pull off is practically experimental, and the rumors of faintings (and I get it) are really interesting - horror films are more gory than this, but in 127 Hours, you feel the gore and it has human consequences. You feel it in the audience in a way you wouldn’t otherwise. So go see this film in the theater!
