Enlightened is brilliant in so many ways, casually devastating and openly human and searching. I’m really glad it exists. (And Luke Wilson is really hot in it, for some reason? Why?)
I like how Enlightened is taking these sort of Oprah New Age ideals and tropes and showing how they work on a single character, who is trying so hard and means so well, but is still human and messy and self-absorbed. I would really like to see how the show would play at a place like the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, a place filled with searchers, a tiny little utopia that you have to leave, eventually. I have a lot of sympathy towards Amy Jellicoe, probably because I know plenty of people who remind me of her, riding on that knife’s edge between crazy and New Age hippie.
