This week, we borrowed a friend’s cat in order to love it, care for it, and also maybe have it counter our mice problem. While we’ve filled many a hole in the baseboards, these mice have been stubborn and audacious and continue to use our apartment like it’s Grand Central Station, despite the diminishing number of routes. Well, so far - the cat has worked! She sleeps on our refrigerator during the day and stalks around the living room at night. I haven’t seen a mouse since. My anxiety has gone down 10,000% percent. (I’m cool w/ mice… but I don’t want to co-exist with mice. Because those creeps always have the element of surprise, making you into the heroine of a horror movie waiting for the jump scare.) My hope is that the lingering cat-ness scares the jerks off. We’ll see.
Anyways, to keep a cat presence in our lives, we’re going to be fostering cats and kitties. So this might just turn into a cute blog featuring pictures of kittens. I think that’d be pretty awesome. It’s weird - as the fifth kid in a family, I’ve had animals, cats and dogs, but only by proxy, since my siblings would let them stay with my parents and me while they gallivanted around the country and the world. They were never quite my responsibility. I’m really looking forward to caring for an animal on my own.
